Govt pussyfooting around on teachers’ salary increase – GTU
The Guyana Teachers’ Union (GTU) is running tired of the continuous delays and excuses being made by Government with regards to the proposal for an increase in teachers’ salaries and other benefits. While Education Minister Nicolette Henry has said that the matter is now at the hands of Cabinet and that recommendations were made and these were submitted for initial evaluation, the GTU said it is fed up. President of GTU Mark Lyte said that the Union has learnt unofficially that the work of the High-Level Task Force of Public Education has been dealt with by Cabinet. However, he said the union is yet to hear a word from the Government on their decision.
